- MIKEY WILL BREAK INTO SPAIN WITH EL CORTE
- Jewelry partnership: Mikey will open concessions in El cort stores in Spain
by jennifer creevy.
- The jeweller will open seven concessions in El corte Ingles stores in Seville, Marbella,
Valencia, Zaragoza, Malaga and La Vaguada and castellan in Madrid. The concessions will be
about 750 sq ft
(70 sq m).
- Mikey, which was bought out of administration last year by a consortium led by former New
Look director Alan Wood, has hired design agency Section D to create the concession. It has
integrated lighting, storage, bespoke accessory holders, mirrors and signage. the new fittings
are being tested at the Mikey concession in Dublin department store clerys.
- Mikey managing director Lisa Wood said:"This is a fantastic opportunity for the Mikey brand
to harness the potential of the Spanish market. The brand has gone through some exciting
changes, the results of which are coming to fruition."
- Mikey has five standalone stores in the UK and Ireland: at Bluewater shopping centre in
Kent, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester. It has nine concessions at stores
including Selfridges, Harrods and Topshop in London. The retailer has introduced new lines
this year, including handbags, and launched a transactional website.
Mikey started out as a concession at Topshop's flagship store on London's Oxford Street in
1989. It opened its firsts standalone outlet in London in 1997. It sells a range of fashion
jewelry including necklaces, bracelets, earrings. brooches, body jewelry, rings and
belts.
- Lisa Wood, wife of Alan Wood, became managing director after the consortium bought it out
of administration.
